Did you know that it is your legal responsibility, as the operator, to make sure that the MEWP you will be using is in good working order, well maintained and inspected by a competent person to ensure the machine is safe to use. (PUWER 1998)
Pre-Use Inspections are key when operating a machine and should not be overlooked as at the end of the day, it is your safety that is at risk.
The aim of a Pre-Use Inspection is to check that the machine is in good working order before use. Not only will you want to be doing visual checks of the machine such as checking its power source, structure and more, but you will also want to complete function tests to check all operations can be completed safely.
Knowing where to start can prove difficult if you have never done one before and so our useful checklist will help you to check through the different parts of the machine systematically.

If any faults are found then be sure to report it to your supervisor or site manager. Never assume that the machine will be okay until you have completed your Pre-Use Inspection.
